My Role
Lead Designer
UX / UI
Q/A
I took the lead in creating a tutoring app designed for parents and students. We decided to prioritize mobile use, but you can also access it through the mobile web and regular web. It was a small team effort with just me and two developers, and we managed to wrap up the project in about a month.
Overview
Create a tutoring app for parents & students that is straightforward & easy to access.
Problems to solve
Make the app so simple anyone could use it whether they are a guardian, parent or student.
Integrate brand as standalone and also cross-promotionally within Plexuss.
Existing API functionality barriers
Rapid iteration & testing
We initiated the project by launching its core functionality (MVP) and subsequently prioritized additional features based on the development time required.
We utilized HotJar to monitor user sessions, ensuring the efficacy of the design. Informed by user research, we adapted and iterated the design to improve user experience.

Empty States
Thoughtfully designed empty states can reduce churn, retain users, and ensure a seamless experience by providing helpful guidance and preventing user confusion. Above you can see some examples of empty states I created.
Due to the fast-paced nature of the project and being the sole designer, I had limited time to create graphics from scratch. Therefore, I maximized efficiency by utilizing pre-existing assets and repurposing them as needed.

Notifications
Notifications are essential as they enable timely communication and updates for both students and parents. By instantly notifying users about important information such as session reminders, progress updates, or upgrade benefits, notifications ensure that users stay informed and can actively participate in the learning process.

Streamlined interface
A simplistic UI is ideal for parents and students as it minimizes complexity and allows for intuitive navigation, making it easier to access essential features and information. This streamlined design promotes a user-friendly experience, reducing confusion and enabling parents and students to efficiently navigate the app and focus on their primary goals.

Challenges
#1 Limited API Functionality
The existing API that was used took our developers some time to understand in order to implement functionality that was already existing. We used temporary fixes in the interim until adequate solutions were found.
#2 Speed & Formatting
One particular challenge that stands out from this project was the existing booking process. It was bloated and had unnecessarily long loading times. We tested with a skeleton loader at first, but it didn't provide enough feedback to the user so we ended up creating a new loading state with accompanied text which helped users understand that the system was working on finding a tutor for their selected date & time.
